Also called: Break-bone fever, Dengue fever
It is an infectious disease caused by a virus. This disease spreads by the bite of a mosquito . It is more common in warm, wet areas of the world. Outbreaks occur in the rainy season.
- High fever
- Joint and muscle pain
- Sometimes it turns into dengue hemorrhagic fever (causes bleeding from the nose, gums or under the skin )
- Sometimes it may turn into dengue shock syndrome (causes heavy bleeding and shock )
Most cases of dengue recover within 2 weeks. Drinking lots of water/fluids, resting and taking fever-reducing medications(except aspirin) might help.
To lower the risk(especially in dengue-prone countries ) :
- Wear insect repellent
- Wear clothes that cover your arms, legs and feet
- Close unscreened doors and windows .
